I am very picky when it comes to feel of the rider triangle so at times I like to give a specific product to a weekend warrior type rider to see if that product can be felt by the average guy who rides/races on the weekends. I understand that I am very sensitive to rider triangle type testing so with this test, I handed the Steg Pegz off to a District 37 off-road racer to see if he can feel any advantage to this product. –KK

In this crazy sport we all love; grip and comfort on the bike is a crucial part in enjoying the motorcycle right? It’s not like us weekend warriors are in great on the bike shape. We want to ride our machines with less fatigue as possible! The Steg Pegz do seem to help a lot with that for my mostly off-road riding ass. I had a chance to take the Steg Pegz out for a few rides and was surprised on how much grip on the bike with your legs they actually provide. First off installing the Steg Pegz on my KTM 250 SX is very easy with all bolts and hardware included with practically no fuss. Parts include: a longer lower subframe bolt and miscellaneous straps to mount to frame. Once installed I loaded up and put these to the test in some very technical rocky off road terrain. Initial thought is I definitely get why these are as popular lately in the multiple genre of off road racing (motocross included). I did have to get used to them but it didn’t take too long to be able to lock in and get to feel with boots and legs. The grip knobs really take a lot of the brunt off of your arms and I your lower back. I noticed in the longer rides or races that I did, the Steg Pegz helped me when I got fatigued, which helped my technique improve while I was dragging my tongue in the spokes! When I get tired, I start putting more weight on the rear end of the bike, which will eventually give me arm pump. With the Steg Pegz on it kind of prop me up, where I could still hold on with my legs. The rubber knob towards the back of the unit keeps your legs and body in a neutral position on the bike. I noticed it a lot going on rough trails where I needed to lock my legs in on some high speed areas. This was mostly noticeable in long sections of rock gardens or cross grain.
All of these benefits above really help, but there are some downsides. One of them is when I want to be more free with my body and move around on the bike on tighter trails. In those areas, I grip less with my legs and need my body (at least for me) to float more around from the pegs to my seat. Rocky switch backs or very tight single tracks had me wishing to move the Steg Pegz knobs back a bit. these knobs are slightly adjustable but I wanted a little more adjustment. Past that, these Steg Pegz have helped more than hurt and to me they don’t look that bad on the bike. I am more function over fashion and if it helps me when I get tired, then I am all about it. I mean why not, right? At $160.00 bucks, it’s worth the cost if you’re trying to improve your technique or need a little extra help locking intoyour dirt bike!
