2027.5 KTM 250SX-F/450SX-F Factory Edition Info

What are the KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITION’s?

The 2027 KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION and KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION mark the arrival of KTM’s first completely new motocross generation in five years. Developed using experience gained through global factory racing and an extensive testing program, both models introduce major advances across the chassis, suspension, engine, electronics, ergonomics and exhaust system. Exclusive Red Bull KTM Factory Racing-inspired graphics and premium Factory Racing components complete KTM’s closest production link to its elite racing machinery.

How are they different to the standard KTM SX-F machinery?

The KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs adopt the production basis of the KTM 450 SX-F and the KTM 250 SX-F but then boost the performance potential and augment the technical specifications thanks to the addition of various components, most of which come from the latest version of KTM’s PowerParts catalogue. The 2027 KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITION models introduce KTM’s completely new motocross platform and elevate it further with an extensive selection of Factory Racing components. Together, these upgrades enhance performance, handling, protection, serviceability and factory-derived exclusivity.

The 2027 models: are they just another graphic and color update for the market?

No! This is where it gets very interesting. The 2027 KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs are the first models to carry KTM’s new generation vision and engineering for the KTM SX-F roster. After five years the multi-title-winning motocross collection has been overhauled, and the transformation extends to the chassis, engine, suspension, ergonomics, exhaust system and, of course, the graphics and liveries.

What is the purpose of the range?

To provide the best example of that ‘replica’ feeling and performance. The 2027 KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs are the customer-ready versions of motorcycles and components that have been race-tested and proven in world-class competition for more than two seasons of development. The customer models benefit from all the data, all the experience and the learning of that race mileage.

Where are they sold?

The 2027 KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs will be available to purchase at KTM Authorized dealers from December 2026 onward.

CHASSIS

Is there a new frame? What changes have KTM made and why?

Yes, and before we get into details it is important to stress that KTM have diligently worked on retaining the same light, responsive feeling of handling, agility and stability that have made the KTM SX-F models so successful over the last decade. For 2027 the focus was to deliver new stiffness parameters in the hydro-formed frame (made using laser-cut and robot-welded technology and finished  with a durable orange powder-coating and factory protectors applied). We again wanted that renowned sensitivity and dependability but to be more universal for all terrain and all conditions. Refinement was paramount for straight line stability, predictability and litheness for corner entry and exit while shaving at least 500 g of weight.

How has this been achieved?

By using data from elite athletes and teams in race series such as MXGP and AMA SMX and customer feedback. The R&D process has delivered modifications that include:

-Reduction of weld points

-Reduction of frame mass without compromising structure, architecture or manufacturing quality

-Reengineered engine mounts

-Two-piece steering head design with optimal flex (compare to the previous model’s three-piece)

-New shock mounting concept

-Fresh footpegs design and structure to reduce clogging from stones and mud

The subframe: is it a bit special?

Yes, as part of the new chassis package for more precision and more feel. Importantly, the subframe is now made of aluminum (2.7 lb/1.23 kg), which saves more than half a kilogram over the previous generation, and is the lightest to come out of the factory.

Is there a new swingarm?

Again, yes. Also made from aluminum (diecast), the swingarm contributes to the sensation of rigidity but also matches the new flex characteristics from the front of the frame. The rear axle setup is pegged at 22 mm. The chain tensioner has been changed to permit a longer wheelbase (more than 5 mm is possible) and a reduction of tolerances for working practices with the rear axle for wheel changes and other duties. We nearly forgot to mention the new polymide skid plate for increased resistance against the toughest ruts, rocks and stones. It has just two screws on the front and uses the integrated frame brackets for mounting.

What’s new with the WP Suspension XACT technology?

OK, so the KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs boast another big change here with the adoption of the 48 mm WP XACT Closed-Cartridge Spring fork. The closed cartridge system replaces the previous AER (air) fork after consultation and tests (from amateur, national and international level riders) revealed the hardware topped performance data and feedback across the board. The WP XACT Closed Cartridge Spring fork was also found to ideally compliment the new chassis philosophy, although the spring-fork architecture carries a modest weight increase compared with the previous air fork, comparative testing consistently favoured its performance. The new system delivers stable damping characteristics, improved front-wheel connection and consistent behaviour across changing track conditions. Both front and back suspension remain fully customizable for compression (high and low speed on the shock), rebound and pre-load through easy-to-reach external adjusters.

What has been done to the shock?

The link-system has been tweaked to suit the new geometry of the KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs. The shock itself is narrower and more compact compared to previous generations and has been shifted 4 mm off center for a fully straight inlet tract and more clearance for other components. The shock now has a high-speed compression ‘clicker’, that helps for more precise and quicker alterations.

What else is different about the handling?

How about a new triple clamp? It has the same quality as past KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs thanks to CNC machining, but for 2027 has a new design: a new screwing mechanism, unified screw length and a different offset (22-24 mm). The effect adds to the desire for faster direction changes and prime rider feeling.

Have KTM altered the ergonomics?

Yes, with less surface area and with special attention on the new rider triangle. The front section is narrower and is noticeable with the knee contact points. The ergonomics offers riders more opportunity to grip the motorcycle with their legs whether in the saddle for corners, standing or manipulating the bike while jumping. The remolding has been possible without any sacrifices for cooling or airflow and uses the latest molded plastic parts for durability.

The shape of the 2027 KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs has been produced through a careful process of clay modelling and for the widest range of riding scenarios. For 2027 the seat is new in order to sync with the chassis geometry. It has a reinforced mounting concept for more security and rigidity. The tank has also been streamlined and to ensure cooling potential thanks to the gap from the radiator. The 1.92 gal (7.3 L) capacity remains, as does the fuel pump assembly, from the previous KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs line-up but the fuel line has new routing for better protection, and the CPC connector is more accessible.

The 2027 KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs have the same parameters for cooling?

No. We’ve made progress here, too. There is a new layout with less components (no Y-piece or coolant riser pipe) and better flow dynamics for consistent cooling between left and right radiators. The changes were made for better efficiency in the toughest conditions, like mud or sandy terrain.

And the airbox?

New and redesigned (and standardized for the 450 and 250 models); simply for better airflow performance and integration from the fuel delivery system. The sealed construction is a robust protector against water, dust, mud and more. The top feed injector, positioned close to the airbox, is new, and this effects the fuel and mixture preparation among other functions like drainage for more efficiency across the engine range.

ENGINE

Do the KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONS meet FIM noise regulations?

Yes, and quite safely thanks to a careful development arch with the exhaust. We needed to hit the latest FIM and AMA noise limits, and that meant a constant period of analysis and execution if we wanted to preserve the distinctive engine performance, torque and throttle response of the KTM SX-Fs. So, we reengineered the header pipe to include a new resonance chamber that administers the pressure waves better and lowers the acoustic emission as well as providing other gains, like improved gas expulsion and a smoother reaction. By tuning the resonance system, the torque curve becomes more predictable and is particularly noticeable at lower and mid-RPM: ideal for motocross corner exit. In total the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION uses three chambers while the KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION has two. The configuration is made in light of the engine use and characteristics of each model. A new header pipe means we also needed a new silencer and the geometry, length and volume have been altered and optimized to maximize the output.

What about ECU and the electronics?

We wanted more rideability with the 2027 KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs. The Engine Management System features a new ECU that process information from sensors faster and with more advanced algorithms. This will influence the ignition, fueling and gear-dependent mapping. There is a new, lighter and more compact lithium‑ion battery that is better packed into the motorcycle. The wiring harness has also been minimized and re-routed to make it less prone to damage or stress (especially around areas like the headstock) and comes with a dedicated cable channel for easier and correct routing for maintenance or a rebuild. The new generation of the EMS will bring other benefits for advanced specs, like the Quickshifter and engine knock processing.

Anything of note with the transmission of both KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs?

Yes. The light and robust gearbox has a redesigned shift drum that reduces the shift lever force and makes for smoother changes in both directions. The ratio between 2nd and 3rd on the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION has been adjusted in accordance with the new engine character to decrease the need to downshift in slower corners. The Quickshifter is now also slicker thanks to the ECU; the ignition system provides a precision calculated ‘delay’ rather than a system interruption for each change, providing combustion stability and maintains torque transition

What has KTM done with the KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION motor?

A lot. A major investment, and we hit a milestone. For the first time we have taken the 56.8lb/25.8 kg production single cylinder 4-stroke unit and have broken the class hp performance barrier. This is not only a ‘first’ for KTM but also for the market and is the result of innumerable hours of R&D; especially as we also needed to adhere to the latest AMA and FIM noise limits. Getting to the top of the class required a new engine design, featuring an oval throttle body, oval intake ports, a top‑feed injector, and an entirely redesigned valve train. Adopting knock control among other technical reinforcements was important to guarantee the same reliability because the top end has morphed substantially. Compression now hits 15.5:1 and the rev limit climbs to 14,500: the same used by racers in 2026 MXGP. The motor has been placed 2.3 mm higher in the frame to assist with more mass centralization and the result has been a more balanced handling character for the bikes.

Important redesigns or changes for 2027:

-Cylinder head, valvetrain and other top-end internals. For the first time on a series‑production engine, the intake ports and combustion chamber are CNC‑machined for extra precision and assisting greater compression

-Intermediate gear in the valve train for a stiffer structure

-Shorter cam chain with a new layout while valve clearance checks and shim replacements no longer require the cam chain to be removed

-Revised valve springs and larger exhaust intake diameter

-Relocation of the throttle body and flap closer to the cylinder head for enhanced throttle response

-A second top-feed injector to support the higher RPM

-Redesigned crankcases for mass centralization with adapted mounting pointed at the swingarm area

-Better water pump efficiency and minimized oil consumption

-New Dell’Orto throttle body with all‑new contactless TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), providing higher measurement precision, reduced mechanical wear, and improved long‑term signal stability.

And the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION?

The KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION might grab the headlines but its bigger brother has not been ignored. Diligent work with the same single cylinder 449 cc 4-stroke means we have been able to push peak horsepower and torque output.

Riders will not crave more… but we have also made the extra power manageable and flexible. Boosting versatility of the package. These gains have been possible while still adhering to the latest noise limits and keeping the same 59 lb/26.9 kg engine weight. How? Thanks to mass balance and packaging and the same 2.3 mm repositioning, influences on the handling are detectable. We’ve made steps with control and fuel delivery systems.

Important redesigns or changes for 2027:

-Top-feed injector and knock control harness mixture prep and mapping performance

-Tuned and detailed intake and exhaust system settings and altered cylinder head assembly for better combustion

-Refinements in accordance with the three-resonance chamber equipment

-Intake port cross section reduction by almost 20%

-2.3 mm higher position in the chassis for better centralization feeling with the same engine mounts as the 2027 KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION

-New connecting rod and crankshaft assembly for fresh engine timing and camshaft

-Technical updates to the 44 mm Keihin throttle body include a repositioned injector position (improved response at lower speed) and improved fueling. As with the KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION an all‑new contactless TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), providing higher measurement precision, reduced mechanical wear, and better long‑term signal stability.

Any more information about the fuel injection?

Just that the revised injector layout is a significant mod, and plays a role in the combustion potential and the higher-end RPM. As we mentioned, the primary injector has been moved from the bottom to the top of the unit while the new top-feed injector kicks in from 6000 rpm for cleaner operation and more output benefits. Oh, a new atmospheric pressure sensor helps the ECU.

MISC

What attention has been paid to brakes, wheels and tires?

The same high-level KTM PowerPart offerings for the wheels: EXCEL Takasago rims and CNC‑machined hubs. The alterations for 2027 come with two-level spoke layouts and special attention to spoke fixings, so the thread pitch is now 0.5 mm (instead of 0.75 mm) in the quest for tougher and stronger performance against loosening (even if they should always be checked by the rider!). The spokes are also shorter. For brakes we continue to believe in industry kings Brembo. The latest kit for the KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs means a new rear pad for smoother and more controllable braking as well as revision of the rear brake lever tip (which is adjustable) as well as the material and surface finish for improved tractability.

How do the KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONS stand out from other KTM motorcycles and other competitors on the track?

Servicing is important. Guidelines for maintenance are etched across the bikes, such as the chain adjuster markings and the laser-made screw tightening torques and holes around the triple clamp. Then integrated notches with the fork guards for optimum setting of the holeshot device. Also, the service markings for the battery (+ and Ground). The architecture of the KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONs is simplified for the best and easiest access, such as the airbox (with an option of an additional safety screw for more security) and for suspension alterations. Even the fork guards have been updated with a revised mounting protocol to prevent twisting or any interference with the fork seals.

Anything around the handlebars?

The bars are provided by experts NEKEN with new KTM bend to fit with the ergonomics. We think deeply about the user experience both during and then after the ride. The bars have two installation configurations: rubber damper or undamped mountings. The mounts are lighter and with higher tolerances for torsion rigidity.

And the switches?

The start/stop switch has been reengineered for greater efficiency and the button itself is more tactile with a thumb guidance ridge to help with operation and haptic feedback. The Map select switch is now a single, cleaner multi-function button that cycles through operations for Traction Control, Quickshifter and Launch Control; all distinguishable through handlebar illumination that can be set to one of five levels of brightness. Different light colors provide guidance for the chosen setting.
